Forum for staff on sexual violence and misconduct in universities
A Universities UK (UUK) Taskforce recently published Changing the Culture, a report examining violence against women, harassment, and hate crime affecting university students. Its starting point is that all university students, whether undergraduate or postgraduate, full-time or part-time, are entitled to enjoy a safe and positive experience at university. However, in recent years there has been evidence which shows that some students have experienced episodes of harassment, hate crime or sexual violence, and that their university may not always have responded effectively.
Changing the Culture makes a number of recommendations intended to lead to a more consistent and effective approach across all universities.
At Newcastle University, we have established our own Task Group, co-chaired by Suzanne Cholerton (Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Learning and Teaching), and Lesley Braiden (Academic Registrar) to consider the University’s policies and actions in response to the recommendations.
We would like to invite you to contribute to the work of the Task Group by attending an Open Forum for University staff, on Thursday 4 May at 2.00pm in the Cassie Building, Room 2.32. There will be a summary presentation of the work of the Task Group to date, and an opportunity to contribute your views, concerns and questions.
Places are limited, so in order to register to attend, please complete this online registration form.
We look forward to meeting you on 4 May.
